Does God care about the details of my life, in the obstacles I face, and the degree of my suffering?
The answer was obvious to me until I had an accident. Hubby and I decided that juicing was a good step to a healthier life. So prepared with the brand new juicer, I pulled organic veggies from the fridge, and added a variety of berries.
Trying to hold back my excitement, I dropped pieces of beets, carrots, apples, celery, etc. right into the juicer, my mouth watered as the delicious strawberry smell wafted out. Then when almost finished, I felt a strange dripping on my shoe.
Sigh! (The disadvantages of being blind).
Unable to see, I didn’t realize the container that collects the juice was separated from the spout where the juice pours out.
Did I say I used beets? Yes! And the blood-like liquid turned the kitchen counter into a huge mess.
And there it was—the perfect reminder of the mess our life is when we encounter a sorry, pitiful separation from God. Could it be spiritual blindness or ignorance? I say both. We’re disconnected because we don’t know Scripture. Thus, we don’t know His power at work in us. We don’t open the Bible; we can’t receive His peace. We don’t read His Word; we cannot collect the abundance of His riches.
But that empty feeling in the container of our heart isn’t unique to us. The folks who surrounded Jesus experienced the same. And they might have asked him: What’s the problem, Lord? “Jesus replied, ‘Your problem is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.’” (Matthew 22:29)
Father, I confess, that was precisely my problem. I’ve been separated from your Word, yet connected to human whims. I’ve seen life to be a bloody mess. But with your mercy, you gave me wisdom to be connected to your Word. And engraving Your precepts in my heart, declaring your power and receiving it, my days are healthier and I take in the nutritious drink to feed my soul. In Jesus’ name, amen.
