Do seniors win contests and prizes these days? They sure do. This one did. The retirement community where he lives had a decorating door contest.
So he got on the phone and called his great grandkids, “Will you come and help me decorate my door?”
They did such a good job that great grandpa won for most festive. But the unique things those little ones did was to trace their handprints on paper, cut them out, put them on the door. Oh yes, each one wrote on their handprint an endearing message to him.
God did the same for us. In the contest of life, when we’re tired of competing, we want to give up because often even meaning is lost in the chaos. But God knows. He leans closer to see those afflictions, the ones that leave us rattled, confused and so tense because we tried everything, and I mean everything to reach a solution. Nothing worked. And in that state of restlessness, we want to echo this same sentiment: “…The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me” (Isaiah 49:14 ).
I’ve had those thoughts before. Have you?
But what if we look closer to see God doing His decorating, putting something personal, something unique in His own palm. That’s when meaning comes back, reassurance blossoms. And in the contest of life, we become winners because of this promise: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…” (Isaiah 49:15).
Knowing He hasn’t forgotten you, will you remember He has the solution to your problem?
