“I already blew it, and January isn’t even over yet,” my friend emailed me. “I tried and tried to look for healthy meals and I also tried looking for a good time to exercise. Can’t do it, my life is way too crazy.”

Can you relate? She’s in the seeking mode. But, she’s not the only one. We’re all busy seeking something—we look for peace, for opportunities, for solutions, answered to prayers, for extra time, for healing, and some even dare seek for security.

While we’re out of breath, dashing through that fury of seeking, God invites us to slow down, find the freedom from the frenzy, and savor this transformational truth: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

And what are those things God promises to add? He’s the one who knows, possibly better than you know yourself. He sees the most intimate of our desires as well as the fear and secrets you keep zipped up in the inner-most compartment of your hearts.

But no matter what your heart holds, seek Him first. He will provide; look for Him above all. He will open doors; look for Him; He will show up. Hunger for Him; He will make you whole. Long for Him; He will fill the void.

12 Questions to Ask

If you’ve not experienced any of the above, time to ask yourself these questions:

1. Do I seek the certainty of tomorrow, or delight in His power for today?
2. Am I seeking foolish dreams, or am I fueled by God’s purpose?
3. Am I seeking to achieve great things or to taste the greatness of God first?
4. Am I seeking knowledge for a lifetime, or God’s wisdom for each day?
5. Am I seeking a hefty bank account, or count on God’s riches instead?
6. Am I seeking quick answers to prayer, or trust and peace while I wait?
7. Am I seeking God to take away my troubles, or take the trouble to listen when He speaks?
8. Am I focusing on the attacks, or on God’s triumph over each battle?
9. Am I looking for a life or roses, or am I willing to remove the thorns of doubt?
10. Am I seeking my success, or first succeed in trusting God?
11. Am I seeking to meet my goals but fail to meet God in His plans?
12. Am I seeking a way out of loneliness, or declare God alone is enough?

Your answers will determine your desire to please God, your hunger to seek Him, and your faith to expect His rewards.

…without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Heavenly Father, in the uncertainty of this world, I praise You for showing me that seeking You above all is where I’ll find the security for this year, the peace for each day, and the joy for each moment.
